Welcome to Paula Minchin Art

Paula studied Fine Art Painting in Limerick College of Art &Design and completed a masters degree in Fine Art Painting at Birmingham University Faculty of Art & Design , Margaret Street.

After completing her studies in Birmingham Paula was offered a fellowship and residency in Limerick College of Art where she thought in the fine art department and had her own studio while working with Art Faculty Students.

Paula then went to Spain where she lived and painted for 3 years. During that time Paula lived in Madrid where she had her own studio at the Belles Artes where she worked whilst also travelling the Spanish regions .

As a young artist she worked with and was influenced by Simon Moller, Jack Donovan, Bob Baker, and Albert Irvine and her work was typified by explorations in collage, and making three dimensional pieces breaking away from the two dimensional surface and frame. Paula’s musical background was then as now never far from the surface of her work and often revealed insect and bird like figures in the presence of piano and musical like instruments giving her work a definite jazz like fell to it.

Paula’s current work whilst continually evolving is now best categorized as painterly abstract expressionism, executed in a distinctly colourful , folksy brash style. Nothing is conceived or planned before the painting begins only the size of canvas and the tubes of colour. There is no end in view when she begins, this must be found in the painting. The paint is applied with fingers scalpel and brush and often to the accompaniment of music. Often a theme will emerge and this is often developed, while other times the painting will take on a journey of its own, like a samba or a riff, un till the end is arrived at.

Paula has exhibited in group and solo shows in Ireland France Spain and England and her work is in many private and public collections.
